THE IMPORTANCE OF AUTHENTIC MATERIALS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING: POINTS TO CONSIDER AND POTENTIAL BENEFITS

Abstract
Considering the current popularity of English, students all over the world are tempted to learn this international language. The aim of learning any kind of language is to be able to communicate in the similar way in which a native speaker would. That is the reason why the notion of “authentic material” has become prevalent in the contemporary teaching process. This article is about the necessities of using authentic materials in foreign language teaching. After the brief information about the core meaning of this term, I tried to present possible types of authentic materials, laid special emphasis on the advantages of using this strategy and gave certain points to consider for the ones who intended to use them.
